With Halloween coming up this weekend, how do you plan on celebrating? If you're PopCap Games, the publisher behind hits like Bejeweled and Peggle, you raise an army of the undead and take to the streets of New York City. To celebrate the huge success of its best-selling title of 2009, Plants vs. Zombies, PopCap will be an "in-parade sponsor" of New York City's 36th Annual Village Halloween Parade taking place this Saturday night at 7:00pm. And PopCap wants you to be part of the action as well.

PopCap is inviting all Plants vs. Zombies fans out to choose a side, plants or zombies, and join the parade dressed up as either a soldier of the undead army or a member of the botanical battalion. Hey, there may even be a few "Crazy Daves" tossed into the mix as well. Fans will march through the streets of Manhattan along with the PopCap team and give away PvZ swag to some of the one million plus spectators who'll watch the parade wind its way through Manhattan. Halloween revelers who choose to join the epic battle between plants and zombies will be eligible for a costume contest PopCap has scheduled to occur immediately after the parade. The publisher will be "digging up" prizes for the best plant and best zombie costumes based on characters from the game.

"We're delighted to have PopCap Games as a sponsor. Their decision to open up their Plants vs. Zombies troupe in the parade to all who wish to join in is perfectly aligned with the spirit of the parade, which invites the entire city to participate in this enormous creative collaboration," according to Parade Director, Jeanne Fleming. "Plants vs. Zombies seems to inspire people to new heights of zaniness, and we have the photos to prove it," added Garth Chouteau, VP of public relations at PopCap. "We wanted to give those rabid PvZ fans a fun time and place to gather and celebrate their passion for the game. What better way than marching up 6th Avenue in New York's historic Halloween parade."

PopCap is trying to pull out all the stops to make the event the largest gathering of zombies in parade history, reaching out to members of the NYC Zombie Crawl and ZombieCon to help fill the streets. No word yet on if the company has reached out to the Botanical Society of America or Future Farmers of America to help bolster the plants' side of the battlefield.

Whether you choose a side or just feel like watching from the sidelines, the NYC Village Halloween Parade seems to be shaping up to be a good time for all. The parade has already been featured in the book "100 Things to Do Before You Die" and this time, it looks like it could be one of the things to do AFTER you die as well. The parade is scheduled to start at 7:00pm EST in New York's Greenwich Village, on 6th Avenue across from HERE Arts Center, the Halloween Parade's Theatrical Home in NYC.
