It's that time again - time for the Olympics, and with it comes the time for the cast of Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog franchise and Nintendo's Mario franchise to join forces in the Olympic spirit for a fun minigame romp on home consoles everywhere. That's all well and good, but Olympic spirit aside, there are a few games that we think deserve their time in the spotlight. We've come up with a few pitches that just might make gamers everywhere realize that the Olympics isn't the only place where two franchises can unite for the greater good.

Kirby's DreamBorderlands

Join Kirby and his new friends from the hit multiplayer first-person shooter/RPG hybrid Borderlands for the biggest gun-toting adventure through Dreamland yet! The evil King Dedede has taken over Dreamland and Kirby is nowhere to be found. For years, Dreamland has become a dilapidated place with no hope on the horizon. Now, it's up to you to take on the role of the Berserker, the Siren, the Soldier and new class the Pink Puffball and gather up some of Dreamland's most powerful weapons, ammo and loot to level your way to the Dedede's fortress and forever shatter his hold on Dreamland forever.

Super Mario Brothers in Arms

Mario and Luigi have come across a whole new faction of evil when they're drafted into Princess Peach's new Mushroom Kingdom Army to combat the hostile takeover of Bowser's forces. As soldiers in the MK militia, play as Mario or Luigi through pulse-pounding first person shooter levels as you hop, bop and blast your way through worlds of mystery blocks, Goombas, Koopas and wonder. Bowser might have his claws ready to strike at the Mushroom Kingdom, but if the Mario Bros. have anything to say about it, he's going to find a whole new meaning to Bowser's Inside Story.

Plants vs. Zombies Ate My Neighbors

There's a zombie on your lawn and it ate your neighbors! Join Zeke and Julie in the newest post-apocalyptic gardening puzzler/platformer. Use the gardening skills of the pair of heroes to collect sunshine and raise some of the meanest, zombie-hating plants the world has ever seen. With your trusty Peashooters in hand, fortify your neighbors' lawns, backyards and roofs with enough firepower to protect them and progress to the next neighborhood - but watch out! The zombies are tricky and will go after Zeke and Julia if their defenses go too far down. Save the neighbors and their gratitude will earn you extra points and extra lives. So grab your peashooters and build your Wallnuts - the zombies are coming!

Peggle Nights of the Old Republic

It's Peggle in a galaxy far, far away! The classic Peggle masters are back, but this time, they're on track to become both Peggle and Jedi masters. Set in BioWare's "Knights of the Old Republic" game world, players must use their Peggle skills to clear levels and earn force powers to take on the Dark Lords of the Sith in Peggle-to-Peggle combat. Go forth as a young padawan and slowly develop your natural skill in Peggle while earning force powers to use to your advantage - pushing a ball in the right direction spells major points, but watch out for the pull of the Dark Side as one stray Force Lightning from your hands can have major consequences later. Train and battle your way through a number of different Peggle and Star Wars worlds to defeat the Dark Lords and bring balance back to the galaxy...

Mario Kart: Double Diner Dash

Flo's in trouble - she forgot to pay the rent on her Diner and now the bank is foreclosing on her. Her only chance is the Mario Kart Grand Prix grand prize - but while Flo and her loyal customers are all set for the race, the Mario gang needs that prize money to save the Mushroom Kingdom and replenish Peach's coin coffers. Play as Flo as you race through the Mushroom Kingdom against some of Mario's biggest stars and earn street cred with the Toads by showing off how your multitasking and delegation skills from working in a diner translate to Kart maintenance. After every race, use some of your winnings to improve your Kart and use the rest to pay off your debt until you reach the finals of the Mario Kart Grand Prix and save your beloved diner. Bring a friend along for the ride for Double Diner Dash racing where in a split-screen co-operative endeavor, one player races while the other runs the pit stop.
