Monster Mash-Ups

Monster Mash-Ups

What better way to celebrate Academy Award wins for Best Director and Best Picture than by turning a movie full of intense themes and explosions into a video game starring a beloved 80s video game hero like Bomberman? Is it sad that we really can't think of a good answer to that question? Anyway, send Bomberman through Planet Bomber in an effort to make the deserts safe for his comrades in arms.

THE EXPENDABLES VS. MORTAL KOMBAT

After taking on the heroes of the DC Comics in last year's Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, there doesn't seem like there are too many more challenging opponents out there in the world for the Mortal Kombaters to throw down with. Well, how about the greatest collection of action movie heroes ever amassed on the silver screen? Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables stars--deep breath--Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, Terry Crews, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny Trejo and Charisma Carpenter in roles of varying degrees of importance. But just imagine alternate costumes and outfits reflecting many of the stars' most famous roles so you can have Rambo fighting Johnny Cage or John McClain getting into it with Scorpion.

BATTLE OF THE AVATARS

Thanks to James Cameron using the title Avatar for his special effects masterpiece, we now have to do even more explaining when it comes to describing Nickelodeon's amazing animated series of the same name which is also getting the feature film treatment thanks to M. Night Shyamalan called The Last Airbender. Both franchises now have their fair share of fans (an understatement considering Avatar is the best selling movie of all time now), but we'd like to settle the score as to which is better with video game controllers instead of online flame wars. Throw in the human element and make the game an AVP-like event where you're fighting the same battle from different angles and a great mix of tech, martial arts and animal magic.

LORD OF THE TRIANGLES

One Triforce will rule them all. That's the idea behind this Lord Of The Rings/Legend Of Zelda mash-up which will send Link and Legolas against orc hordes and Ganon using the same technology that Peter Jackson used to create the epic battle sequences in the game. This would be the most realistic Link you've ever seen and a Zelda who will make Liv Tyler look like Gene Simmons.

ARMY OF TWO: CONTRA

Bill and Lance, stars of the original Contra, deserve better than they've gotten over the years since their first two classic games. We'd like to see them get the Army Of Two treatment, but in a crazier landscape that harkens back to the brain and alien-filled levels of the original. Two man multiplayer while blasting away at enemy soldiers and competing for the spread gun sounds just as fun now as it did almost 25 years ago.

ZOMBIES 8 MY NEIGHBORS

Left 4 Dead is great because it takes the zombie phenomenon and puts you square in the middle of it with equal opportunity to blast your way to safety or get annihilated by a swarm of the undead. Zombies Ate My Neighbors was fun because it took two kids and pitted them against everything from zombies and werewolves to giant babies while keeping an element of fun that is rare in much zombie fiction. Combine the two taking the graphics and gameplay of L4D and combining it with the more fun elements of this classic 90s game and you'll have a brand new classic on your hands.

CALL OF DUTY: THE TIME WAR

War is hell and few better games have gotten that very basic point across better than the Call Of Duty series. From what we've heard from The Doctor, the Time War sounds like it was pretty hellish itself, resulting in the death of all but one--or two--Time Lords. Once the storyrunners of the classic BBC sci-fi series map out the war itself, pass it over to the COD game developers and give fans the most serious space warfare game of all time with voices from our favourite Doctors--that misspellings for you, British people, we know how you love the letter "U."

MARIO KART VS. WACKY RACES VS. SEGA ALL-STARS

We love seeing our favorite video game characters together in one place. Sonic vs. Mario? Sold. Smash Bros.? Yes! So, why not combine our favorite video game characters with some of the most iconic cartoon characters of all time in one game focused on dismissing automotive responsibility at every turn? Mario Kart's been driving fans crazy for years, Sega's got their All-Stars revving their engines with the recent Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and you just know those Hanna-Barbera characters are always down for some excitement. Instead of going all CGI on these classic characters, we'd give the whole game a retro animated feel with racetracks based on each characters' home game or cartoon.

MEGA MAN VS. NATURE

Here's the pitch: Dr. Wiley captures Mega Man and drops him into a harsh, unpopulated world where he has to fight his way through treacherous climates, animals trying to eat him and, of course, a series of robots with a mad-on for the little blue dude. He starts off with nothing, but collects pieces he can use as he continues through the levels, eventually making his way to Dr. Wiley with an arsenal of survival-based skills and weapons ready to give him what for.
