Objectifying women is not a new concept in game design. Since the days of Sega CD, console gamers have been constantly inundated with images of women in tight fitting clothes that scream sex appeal. As gaming consoles got more powerful, developers were able to introduce sexier character models like Lara Croft and more recently Bayonetta. On the iPhone, sex appeal has never been at the forefront of game design, mostly because the processing power is simply not comparable to that of a home console or a PC. However, Press OK Entertainment has gone back to the simpler days of Sega CD, bringing sex to portable-touch screen gaming. Their new title, Fantasy Date for iPhone, is a Quicktime driven game that is all about men getting to first base and then some with women who could only exist outside the confines of reality.

In Fantasy Date, gamers will choose one of four different women to go on a dating adventure with. Each date plays out like a choose-your-own-adventure story. Gamers will be posed with a question and have three different options to choose from. After making you're selection the date will either continue or come to a crashing halt. Most of the time the answers are obvious based on the date you're on. However, there are a few situations where being too nice can also backfire. In between questions, gamers will see short fifteen-second clips of their Fantasy Date. Each date has about two minutes worth of video in total. Most videos end up being reused regardless of how you react throughout the date. All the videos are delivered through a first person camera perspective to put gamers right inside the date.

Since Fantasy Date is all about creating fantasies, the women feel more like stereotypes from 80s B or adult films. All the girls fulfill some negative archetype for women, ranging from the blond bombshell to the shopaholic Wilma Flintstone wannabe. You will be introduced to each date with a short bio and fifteen-second video diary. Here are a few of the dating scenarios you will encounter:

Scarlett

Have you ever wanted to be pulled over by a voluptuous blond cop, who just happens to show more than standard police issue cleavage? Well, then you're in luck. Scarlett will pull you over for speeding. With some quick wit and a cheesy pick up line, Scarlett will be wooed into meeting up with you later. Some of the questions on your date will be loaded. For example, Scarlett will ask you what her eye color is to see if you were just staring at her chest. Unfortunately, the resolution of the videos won't make seeing her eyes an easy task. However, guess work will win you through to the next level because regardless of how you answer, she will still be interested. Within a few gaming hours, you can have Scarlett in the hot tub. You win by getting her in bed.

Jessica

Jessica is the sexy girl who hides behind a nerdy tech savvy exterior. She fulfills the naughty principal fantasy or the Kill Bill, Vol. 1 school-girl fantasy. This date will be all about exchanging flirty yet nerdy computer and gaming jokes with her. This date is heavy on bad sexual puns. Jessica is tech support at your office. When you're hard goes down, you will be in for a slew of awkward puns. For instance, in one situation she will make a comment about your hard drive being down and needing to get back up. Jessica will also crawl underneath your desk to "fix" your hard drive problem as well as dance on your desk to break office rules.

Sabrina

Sabrina is a 21-year old cheerleader who is ultra chipper, somewhat of an airhead and overly self conscious. You'll meet her in a club after she has had one too many drinks. Thankfully, this scenario doesn't spiral out of control. The game only allows you to be a gentleman and not take advantage of her. But just like in Knights of the old Republic, you'll entertain the dark side of the force and see what happens when you press the inappropriate choice.

Debbie

Debbie is the most realistic girl included in Fantasy Date. Strangely, you're hanging out in the woman's section in a clothing store and Debbie asks you to help her shop. After three nice remarks, you'll win her over with ease because realistically this never happens. While, the other dates were typical guy fantasies, this one is not the case. For the most part, you just follow Debbie around while she shops.

The videos can either be downloaded or stream off the Internet. Outside of being unable to see Scarlett's eye color, the video quality is quite good. However, there are some sound problems. During most dates, you will notice that the sound went through ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement). Your date will be speaking regularly, then a line or two will be switched out for poor dubbing.

Fantasy Date may take women's lib back a few decades, but guys who want a very fantastical look at the world of dating may want to check this out. Honestly, the dumbed down dating scenarios make Fantasy Date feel more like a game designed for hormone driven adolescents than adults. If this title is a success, then game publishers may feel there is room to expand the market for adult games on the iPhone. And, that may not necessarily be a good thing.
