Must-Play Community Levels in LittleBigPlanet 2

Must-Play Community Levels in LittleBigPlanet 2
Bookmark and Share

LittleBigPlanet 2 is on the market, packed with brand-new content from developer Media Molecule for the PS3-exclusive fans' enjoyment. But the community levels were the driving force behind first title, and undoubtedly with the ability to create not only levels but entire games this time around, community levels will play a bigger part than ever in the longevity of LittleBigPlanet. And though we've just passed the one week marker with Sony's anticipated sequel, there's already plenty of great content available. The Clik runs down some of the (if not the best) most interesting community levels players just need to try the month of LittleBigPlanet 2's launch.

SACKBOY BASKETBALL
By Scumbles375
There are already plenty of basketball options available for gamers to check out, including one from Media Molecule in the core game, but "Sackboy Basketball" is our favorite for a number of reasons. There's another out there with a fun bounce pad at center court, but the problems is that with the right run it's easy to just jam and hold onto the ball forever. With "Sackboy Basketball," players get a simplified arena, but it's the ability to grab and steal with R1 that puts it a cut above the competition. It helps keep the game competitive, and unless aided by other players, it's hard to jam and hold onto the ball.

SUPER LBP FIGHTER II TURBO
By Hymanator
We'll be honest - this fighting adaptation isn't exactly "good," but it shows gamers the range of possibilities available with LittleBigPlanet 2. Hymanator created a fighter loosely based on Street Fighter. And while it is not something gamers will come back to for its technical prowess, it's fun to see. It also doesn't hurt that most battles degenerate into an exchange of groin kicks.

TRON LIGHT CYCLE BATTLE
By THEMARKER_1
Sackboys hop into Light Cycles and ride in this adaptation of Disney's famed series. The level is a simple, neon blue grid, but it is the light tail destruction of the cycles that makes it endearing. While it may not be a perfect game, we're happy to be able to play a version of it here in LittleBigPlanet 2.

GALACTIC BASE DEFENSE - 1.3
By Urbandevill
Tower defense done right can be incredibly addictive. "Galactic Base Defense" is getting there. It has some balancing issues, and it would be nice to see more variety, but at version 1.3 it's a heck of a good start for a community level. Urbandevill unloads waves of enemies, and it's up to gamers to strategically place and upgrade defenses to stop them from getting down a corridor to the base.

BAD LUCK
By Allu199
"Bad Luck" just one example of the filmmaking that is beginning to take over the LittleBigPlanet 2 community realm. With the ability to forge cutscenes this time around, some gamers are forgoing the games altogether in favor of using LittleBigPlanet as a storytelling tool. "Bad Luck" tells the tale of a guy who faces some extremely bad luck in series of unfortunate events. Though the option for it is available, there's no dialogue in this one, just pure visual storytelling. The only thing we hope for is all creators properly labeling their movies, because there's little more frustrating in the new LittleBigPlanet 2 community section as starting up a "game" and waiting for a cutscenes only to find out there's not game, just a movie.

SPINNING WHEEL
By Singleagle
"The Spinning Wheel" is a great multiplayer stage, best experienced by four players. A pole swings from the center, with players standing around it on four pedestals. If it hits a player, the Sackthing gets knocked off. The only options are to hit or jump over the rod when it comes around, and mixing it up strategically is the key to tricking opponents as the game speeds things up. Little games like this could be the key to LittleBigPlanet 2's success down the road.

THE GRAPPLING POINT-CHALLENGE
By Halliss68
This one is better for the single players looking to challenge themselves and the leaderboards. Halliss68's "Grappling Point-Challenge" is essentially a high jump. A grappling point moves left and right at the bottom of the screen, while bumpers line the sides of the playing field. It's up to players to use the momentum of the fall, bounce and location of the grappling point to get the highest jump possible. It's the simplicity that helps keep it addictive.

CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS NAZI ZOMBIES
By Donaldv123
"Call of Duty: Blacks Ops Nazi Zombies" offers two levels inspired by the popular shooter series. Unfortunately, there are some very simple exploits to take advantage of, but for gamers who don't play cheap, it can be fun to annihilate the fiery zombies with Paintinators. Even with "purchasable" upgrades and other nods to the original, Nazi Zombies is another great example of what's possible in LittleBigPlanet 2. Let's just hope the mods and cries of copyright infringement take it easy.
