When most people think of games with blood, violence and sexually explicit humor, console gaming on the Xbox 360 or PS3 are usually the first things that come to mind. Handheld devices and the Wii tend to be the home of more casual-playful games with an emphasis on fun, brevity or family. However, there are a few games on the market for the Nintendo Wii and DS that brandish the adult flag of "mature." Though these games have fallen to the periphery of most gamers' attention, they still deserve a second glance - by adults.

MadWorld (Wii)

Sega may have been 'mad' for trying to rebrand the Wii as a Mature system, but MadWorld was just about as bloody as they came. MadWorld delivered a Sin City style black-and-white gaming experience filled with an overdose of cartoon blood and violence.

However, that was only half the fun of MadWorld. What MadWorld lacked in realism and colored characters, it more than made up for with creative ways to horribly maim and decapitate your enemies. Gamers were rewarded for devising new ways to dole out punishment. Sure, it is fun to throw somebody onto a spiked wall. But, it's so much more fun to stick your enemy in a trash can, impale him, throw him against a spiked wall, and then toss his remains onto a subway track so he can get run over. You could even rip off the head of your opponents and use that as a weapon.

Dementium/Dementium II (DS)

Scaring someone through tiny images on a handheld device can be a daunting task. Dementium, from Renegade Kid, did its best to deliver a horrifying experience worthy of the Shining. This first-person shooter (FPS) had spooky little girls, creepy blood-soaked zombies and notes written on the wall in blood. Dementium takes the crown for disturbing sound design on the DS. Renegade Kid pulled out all the stops to make sure that sound alone would creep you out in this visceral adventure.

Dementium II, coming out later this year, addresses some of the problems with the original version. The sound design continues to dominate the upper echelon of DS games, while the bloody mess of zombie parts will have you wondering if you're really playing this game on a handheld device.

House of the Dead: Overkill (Wii)

If there is one Wii rail shooter to get, House of the Dead: Overkill was that game. The crass story, filled with over-the-top grindhouse violence and sexually explicit humor, made you wonder if the ESRB wouldn't devise a rating higher than Mature for this title.

Violence and blood wasn't the only thing that made this game earn its well-deserved "M" rating. Detective Isaac Washington dropped just about every F-bomb you could think of at just about every second in the game. It was so horrendous that you couldn't stop laughing at his Sam Jackson style delivery. There's even a very Oedipus-like moment between a mother and son that will have you shaking your head over and over.

Sadly, the game could be completed in four to five hours. However, you could play the game over and over with friends, while unlocking stronger weapons.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (DS)

The franchise says it all: Grand Theft Auto. Chinatown Wars took all the great features of the console GTA games and miraculously translated them into a nifty handheld version that didn't suffer from being another tragic port. Like most GTA games you had the option to steal cars at will, engage in drug deals and run over pedestrians as they cried in shock. Although not advisable in the least bit, you could also use a rocket launcher to blow up cop cars with the police still inside or lead a squad car into a devastating crash. This was a step ahead of prior GTA games since it allowed gamers to take the offensive against cops. Surprisingly, no one chastised the franchise for this. The only downside to Chinatown Wars was the lack of voice acting. However, it's blatant upgrade to breaking the law in cruel and unusual ways makes it one "Mature" game worth picking up.

No More Heroes 2 (Wii)

Ubisoft's 2010 sensation No More Heroes 2 is without a doubt one of the best Mature games on the Wii. Saying this game is filled with graphic violence, sexually explicit dialogue, sexually innuendos and sexually explicit themes would be a profound understatement. No More Heroes 2 does it all, while still keeping you entertained and fixated on playing through fun 8-bit minigames. As you progress as Travis Touchdown through the game, severing head after head, the "mature" level only seems to grow. You'll transform into a Tiger to rip out your enemies' insides, learn new finishing moves that cover your screen in animated blood, and watch several close ups of female body parts.

This game goes miles past objectifying women. Your guide, Sylvia, is seen in just about every cut scene, through close-ups of her chest and underwear. Every scene Sylvia is in mimics a fantasy phone sex operation that is further heightened through Touchdown's accidents with his lightsaber. And by the way, to save the game, you have to find a bathroom and do a number 2. That about says it all.
